All our beads are
handmade of hot glass done as torchwork. A torch using oxygen and
propane is turned on to produce a blue flame. Mandrels are
prepared with a release
solution, and rods of glass are readied.
While turning the mandrel in one hand above
the flame, the glass rod
is held in the other hand above the flame.
The
glass can reach heats of 2000º. This causes
the glass to become liquid and allows it to be wrapped around the
mandrel. It takes many delicate wraps of glass to create one bead.
